geometry, halftones, child-like type treatments and illustrations, and a mix of all the above seems to be the hipster illustration/design style du jour, but personally i find very few can rock this balls out and make it really work. in addition to steven harrington/national forest, and guys like cody hudson, damien correll definitely knows how to rock this style well…check him out here..
get involved, get creative with these freebie candidate illo’s c/o YWFT
Crazy huh.. I just did these a few months ago and you can already get em.. at Pac Sun

About a year ago, we rolled a hand-me-down ping pong table into the DOE design studio. It was your typical garage table that was on its last leg but we were just stoked to have it. It didn’t take long for the wheels to start turning and talk soon began of a custom table with a net made of lasers that would transform into a spaceship or man eating pongasauras rex. Something like that. It really wasn’t until one of our clients caught glimpse of our vision and called on us to make a custom table for the SIA (Snowsports Industry of America) trade show in Las Vegas. With the combined force of DOE industrial and graphic designers, one stellar engineer and a crafty wood worker — a beautiful thing happened.
We first researched a bunch of table surfaces but settled on Richlite (the stuff skate ramps are made from) for strength, finish and durability. Then we carefully clear coated a thunderbolt pattern for a subtle tonal effect. The arms are polished aluminum brackets and designed to hold a variety of net barriers. You can slide in a traditional fabric net or go with something much sexier. A custom sandblasted glass net maybe. The legs are constructed from cnc cut ribs glued together with open ends which not only complete the visual form but made the surface appear like it was floating.

Needless to say we are happy with the outcome. So happy that you will see more tables like this one starting to pop up. If you’d like to inquire further or just say whats up, hit us with an email at info@deptofenergy.com.

say what you will about today’s rockstar designers, but for my money you can’t beat a paul rand piece or many of the other works in this gnarly flickr resource…
